- Tiwa Savage
Tiwa Savage, a Nigerian singer and song writer was conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Music by her alma school, the University of Kent in the United Kingdom. In recognition of her inspirational and international career in music.
2. Jalade-Ekeinde, Omotola
Omotola Jalade, a Nollywood actress, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Igbinedion University, Okada in 2019 for her contributions to human development and progress.
3. Helen Paul
The ace comedienne due to her love for academics, went ahead to obtained a PhD in Theatre Arts from the prestigious University of Lagos. Helen happens to be the first Nigerian standup comedian to earn a PhD.
4. Eniola Olaniyan
Though absent from our screens the Nollywood actor now has a focus on academics. Olaniyan holds a PhD degree in Meteorology and Climate Science which he obtained from the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
5. Doyin Hassan
The Nollywood actor, producer and director have featured in several gospel movies until he decided to leave the movie scene and is currently lecturing job at Conestoga College, Ontario. He obtained a PhD in Business Administration from Lagos State University.
6. Olayiwola Razaq aka Ojopagogo
Nollywood actor Ojopagogo is mostly known for his roles in Yoruba movies. He was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in Language and Communication arts by the Esct University in Benin Republic University.
7. Eucharia Anunobi Ekwu
Veteran Nollywood Eucharia Anunobi is yet another actress who has received an honorary degree.
The actress received an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Christian Leadership and Missions from Kingdom Life Bible College and Seminary International.
8. Peter Okoye (Mr. P)
Peter Okoye, the music star, and also member the P-Square duo with his identical twin brother Rudeboy received an honorary degree from Escae-Benin University in Benin Republic in honor of his contributions to music and dance.
9. Ezuruonye, Mike
Mike Ezuruonye, a well known Nigerian actor, producer and director received an honorary doctorate degree in Literature and Art from Estan University in Benin Republic.
10. IK Ogbonna
Ikechukwu Mitchel Ogbonna was another Nigerian celebrity awarded with an Doctorate (Honorary) Degree of Arts in leadership and Development from Institut Superieur De Technologies Et De Management, Togo.
11. Wole Soyinka
Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, the prolific writer bagged an honorary degree from the reputable University of Cambridge, UK, in June 2022.
The Cambridge varsity honorary degree is bestowed upon people “who have made outstanding achievements in their respective fields,” the varsity’s official site noted.
12. Adesua Etomi Wellington
The multi-award winning Nollywood actress was also given a nod in the academic world by her alma mater, the University of Wolverhampton. In a statement by the UK varsity, Etomi was lauded for her “phenomenal contribution to arts and culture”.
13. Kaffy
Popular dancer, Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, also known as Kaffy, was also honored with a doctorate degree from Myles Leadership University in September 2022.
The 2022 honor is her second, as she earlier bagged a doctorate degree from Escae Benin University, Benin Republic.
14. Mo Abudu
Mo Abudu the founder and CEO of EbonyLife Media, received two honorary doctorates from both Babcock University and the University of Westminster.
She received honorary degree as a Doctor of Humane Letter, Honouris Causa, at the 2014 Convocation Ceremony of Babcock University.
The University of Westminster, London also awarded her an honorary degree of Doctor of Arts, in recognition of her services to broadcasting and enterprise in Nigeria.
15. Nancy Isime
Reality TV star Nancy Isime has also been awarded an honorary doctorate degree in Arts and Philosophy from Prowess University in Delaware, USA, cementing her place as one of the most successful actresses in Nigeria.
16. Linda Ikeji
Linda Ikeji was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree by Trinity International University, Georgia in 2018.
The Honorary Doctorate degree was presented to the popular blogger and LITV CEO in recognition of her work in media in Africa.
17. Alexx Ekubo
Alexx is a famous Nollywood actor well known for his roles as a lover boy also received an honorary doctorate in Arts and Culture from Benin Republic’s Institut Supérieur de Communication et de Geston University.
18. Chimamanda Adichie
This award-winning Nigerian author is a personal favorite. She can be dubbed the queen of doctorate degrees as she first received her first doctorate – Doctor of Humane Letters in 2016 from John Hopkins University. Then In 2017, the Purple Hibiscus author, bagged two doctorate degrees from Haverford College and the University of Edinburgh, respectively. In 2018, the University of London, awarded Adichie with an Honorary Doctor of Literature Degree (D.Litt).
19. Anto Lecky
2018 BBNaija housemate Anto Lecky recently bagged a doctorate degree from ISCOM University, Benin Republic for her work in sports, education and science.
20. Ashmusy
Amarachi Amusi, better known as Ashmusy, a well known Nigerian skit maker and social media influencer, was recently conferred with an honorary doctorate in real estate management from Prowess University in Delaware, USA.
