National Industrial Court Orders Payment of Withheld Salary Areas to RSU Professor.
A National Industrial Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers state has ordered the management of Rivers state University (RSU) to pay its ex-Vice chancellor, Professor Barineme Fakae his seven years’ salaries areas withheld by the institution.
According to news reports, Professor Fakae has been denied his salaries since 2015 with the institution’s Governing council claiming that his transfer of service was irregular.
The Professor had sought to transfer his services from University of Nigeria Nsukka where he was primarily a Lecturer before being appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University by former Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
However, Prof. Fakae took the matter to the industrial court it was ruled in his favor, that his employment with the institution was still valid.
The presiding Judge, Justice P. I. Hamman in his judgment said Prof. Fakae should be given all his entitlements, remunerations, and/or other privileges accrued to him as an employee who was given a letter of Offer of Appointment dated May 16, 2014.
