Requirements:

Registration for the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, which will be fully computer-based in 16 subjects, runs from 7th July to 18th November 2025, with late registration from 19th to 25th November attracting an extra ₦5,000. Walk-in registration costs ₦43,000. Candidates must have a valid NIN, undergo biometric fingerprint capture during offline registration, and will be verified biometrically on exam day—mismatched fingerprints will be treated as impersonation and sanctioned by law. The registration fee is ₦30,000 (inclusive of a mathematical table and waterproof certificate jacket), plus applicable charges, payable via ATM card, internet banking, USSD, wallet, or bank branch through www.neco.gov.ng. Exams will be held from 26th November to 13th December 2025.

Upon registration, candidates must collect their timetable and a clear NECO photocard for admission into the exam hall. The photocard’s referee section must be signed and stamped by an eligible official, such as a school principal, clergy, senior officer, senior civil servant, or experienced lawyer. Candidates with special needs should register like others, indicating their specific requirements online. Exam centres are grouped into neighbourhoods within each state, and candidates will be automatically assigned to a centre in their chosen area.

A mock examination will be organized for interested candidates ahead of the 2025 SSCE External and communicated by the Council in due time. The ₦30,000 registration fee is non-refundable, and the exam will be fully computer-based. Walk-in candidates may register no later than three hours before their chosen subject, but examination centres cannot be changed after upload. Candidates and cybercafé operators must carefully follow the SSCE External registration guide on www.neco.gov.ng, using reputable cafés to avoid costly errors. One-time corrections before the exam are allowed, but complete name changes are not permitted—only one adjustment between name or passport is allowed alongside other minor edits. Candidates should study the Rules, Regulations, and syllabus thoroughly, and note that their uploaded photograph and NIN will appear on their certificates.

Candidates will be notified about the viability of their exam centres at least a day before the exam. Strict regulations apply—electronic gadgets, smoking, weapons, and improper dress (candidates must appear in mufti) are prohibited. Multiple registrations will lead to the cancellation of all results. Candidates must be seated 30 minutes before each paper, as late entry after the exam has started will not be allowed. These measures are in place to maintain fairness, integrity, and order throughout the examination process.
