NNPC Donates A Complex Worth 400M To BUK

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Friday commissioned and handed over a newly built complex to house the Department of Civil Engineering, Bayero University Kano (BUK).

According to the NNPC Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, the company spent N400 million Naira in building the complex. Mr. Kyari also said the donation is part of NNPCs contribution to educational development in the country’s tertiary institutions.

Mr. Kyari, who was represented by NNPC Group Executive Director, Corporate Services Hajiya Aisha Farida Katagum, said the building was named after NNPC as a symbol of the positive impact NNPC is making in strengthening Nigeria’s educational institutions with key strategic infrastructure to create a conducive environment for better learning, and research.

She also said, “This project, the ‘NNPC Complex’ was initiated on the request of the University in 2018 with the scope of covering Engineering Design, Material Procurement and Construction and today their request has been actualized.

“The beautiful complex contains classrooms, offices, laboratories, lecture theatre, parking space, landscape, utilities amongst others.

Speaking on behalf of the university management, BUK Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics, Professor Sani Muhammad Gumel, thanked NNPC for the donation, and called for increased collaboration to help in furnishing the building so both the student and lecturers can resume using it as soon as possible.

The VC also said the new building will serve almost all other departments in Faculty of Engineering, saying that the donation will forever remain in the university’s history.
