Course Description:
Millers in Africa face tough choices about how to spend their scarce resources. Having a better understanding of the business of rice milling will enable millers to make thoughtful investment choices. This is the secret to predictable, planned growth.
The Business of Rice Milling course will empower millers to make informed investment decisions.
Milling executives will learn:
• The factors that lead to successful milling operations in West Africa. Important concepts such as source-make-sell; leading and lagging indicators and how to apply these to improve milling operations.
• The costs and benefits of investing in various activities such as outgrower programs,
sourcing standards, quality programs, upgrading milling equipment, preventative
maintenance programs etc.
• How to assess whether these various possible activities in source-make-sell as worthwhile
for their mill.

By the end of the training, participants will understand milling operations holistically, especially how source-make and sell investment choices affect leading and lagging indicators and ultimately the economic performance of rice mills.
