The Manchester University Scholarship for All Departments in the United Kingdoms
Faculties and Schools across the University have developed a range of subject-specific schemes to support their students.

Faculty of Science and Engineering
The Manchester Science and Engineering International Excellence scholarships
The Manchester Science and Engineering International Excellence scholarships are open to all international fee paying, self-funded students and will be considered based on their UCAS application. The awards are open to those joining any other degree programme registered in the Faculty.
There are 20 competitive awards of £3,000 per year for up to four years of study, awarded to the highest performing applicants within each discipline. Winners will be announced in August.
To be considered for this scholarship, applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Be International fee paying, self-funded students.
- Maintain a 60% average performance each year to qualify for annual payments Offer holders should have chosen Manchester as firm choice
- Ensure they are fully registered with their Department on an undergraduate degree course as a new student.
- There will be no separate application form. All international students who are holding an offer of a place within the Faculty at The University of Manchester will be considered for a scholarship.
Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science – The Morton Award for International Excellence
The Morton Award for International Excellence is open to all international fee paying, self-funded students and will be considered based on their UCAS application. The awards are open to those joining any degree programme registered in the Department of Chemical Engineering.
A number of competitive awards of £3,000 per year, for up to four years of study will be awarded to the highest performing applicants with an equal allocation between those identifying as female and those identifying as male during the application process.
To be considered for this scholarship, applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Be assessed as an International fee paying, self-funded student.
- Maintain a 60% average performance each year to qualify for annual payments.
- Ensure they are fully registered with their Department on an undergraduate degree course as a new student.
- There will be no separate application form. All international students who are holding an offer of a place within the Department of Chemical Engineering at The University of Manchester will be considered for a scholarship.

1. Pharmacy International Bursary
- The award: £2,000 per year
- Who is eligible: Overseas students who are self-funded.

- The award: £2,000 per year
- Who is eligible: Overseas students who are self-funded.

3. Psychology International Bursary
- The award: £2,000 per year
- Who is eligible to apply: This merit-based bursary is awarded to five international students who have been accepted onto the three-year Psychology programme.

1. School of Biological Sciences Excellence Scholarship
- The award: £2,000 per year
- Who is eligible to apply: Overseas students with an offer to study any one of the undergraduate programmes in the School of Biological Sciences.

- The award: £14,750
- Who is eligible: Overseas students with an offer to study the Biosciences Foundation Year. This bursary is for the Foundation Year only.

Faculty-wide scholarships
1. Outstanding Academic Achievement Awards
- The award: £1,000
- Who is eligible: The University awards this to approximately the top 0.5% of undergraduate students at graduation each year.

2. BP Achievement Awards
- The award: £1,000 per year.
- Who is eligible: First and second-year undergraduate students in the following discipline areas: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences (including Geology), Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics.
Students on relevant courses are invited to write a 1,000-word essay on a specific subject. There are up to three awards available per Department and year. Email and poster publicity is normally launched in December with a closing date in February. Students are selected on the basis of their entry qualifications / first-year examination results and the content of their application/essay.

3. BP Stem Scholarships
- The award: £3,000 per year.
- Who is eligible: First-year undergraduate students in the following discipline areas: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences (including Geology), Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics and Astronomy.
Students on relevant courses are invited to apply to BP online (normally in November of their first year). Students are selected on the basis of their applications, online tests and an interview. The scholarship is renewable each year based on examination performance.

4. International Excellence Undergraduate Scholarships
- The award: £2,000 per year
- Who is eligible: Well qualified international students who apply for any undergraduate degree course within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

5. Indian Excellence Scholarships
- The award: £80,000 available over three awards. The highest ranked student will receive £40,000 payable as £10,000 per year, for up to four years of study. Two students will receive awards of £20,000 each payable as £5,000 per year, for up to four years of study.
- Who is eligible: any Indian student who can demonstrate excellent levels of attainment while studying the International Baccalaureate or Standard XII.
Three individual scholarships are available. These prestigious Faculty awards will be made on the basis of an applicant’s UCAS form. There is no special interview or extra work commitment involved.
Eligible candidates need to accept an offer as first choice from the University by Sunday, 30 June 2019 and the three successful applicants will be informed of their awards in July, providing them with valuable savings on their studies. Students will need to maintain satisfactory performance during their degree course.

1. Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science
The Morton Award for International Excellence
The Morton Award for International Excellence is awarded to the ten highest academic achievers on entry to Chemical Engineering. This prestigious award is open to all international students and has a value of £4,000. The scholarships are paid in instalments of £1,000 per year for all four years of the MEng course. Students from all over the world have been recipients of the Morton award:

2. Earth and Environmental Science
William Boyd Dawkins Scholarships
- The award: £1,000 in Year 1.
- Who is eligible: Students who achieve AAA at A-level (or equivalent) will be awarded our prestigious William Boyd Dawkins Scholarship. To be eligible, offer holders will need to have put the University as their firm choice. Successful recipients will receive a one-off payment of £1,000 during their first year of study.

3. Materials
Materials Science and Engineering Programmes
- The award: £3,000 or £5,000.
- Who is eligible: Outstanding home and international applicants for all Materials Science and Engineering Programmes will be eligible for an automatic Department of Materials and Faculty scholarship with a total value of £5,000 if they achieve A*A*A* grades at A-level (or equivalent) or £3,000 if they achieve grades A*A*A at A level (or equivalent).

4. Mathematics
International Mathematics Scholarship
- The award: £1,000 per year.
- Who is eligible: All new international students who satisfy the mathematical component of their entrance requirement. The award, which lasts as long as your undergraduate degree, whether that is three or four years, is paid automatically in the first year; after that payment is subject to you maintaining at least a 65% exam average. All international students will be considered automatically for this scholarship and need not apply for it. We’ll notify you of your eligibility for the International Mathematics Scholarship as soon as we know whether you satisfy the entrance requirements.

International Mathematical Excellence Scholarship
- The award: £2,000 per year.
- Who is eligible: These excellence scholarships are for one academic year and are awarded to the best students each year, the decision being based on the previous years’ exam results.

Physics Success Scholarship
- The award: £2,000, payable during the first year of the course.
- Who is eligible: International students who have demonstrated academic excellence in their examinations.

- The award: A paid internship and the possibility of further work

- The award: IET membership, a bursary, contribution towards tuition fees and books/software and professional development training.
- Who is eligible: BEng/MEng students with high grades studying electrical and power engineering.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)
- The award: Up to £3,000 per year
- Who is eligible: Students about to commence any IET accredited MEng or BEng degree course and expected to achieve a minimum of three Bs at A level (or equivalent).

Manchester Law Scholars Award
- The award: up to 25% of the annual undergraduate overseas tuition fee.
- Who is eligible: Overseas students enrolling for a full-time undergraduate degree in the Department of Law and paying overseas tuition fees. The scholarship is not available to any students joining a degree programme after Year 1. More information can be found on the Department of Law website.
