UI Students Protest Over Institute’s Recent Unfavorable Policies
The students of the University of Ibadan (UI) have taken to the streets to express their grievances over the recent unfavorable policies implemented by the Institution.
The protest, which started on Tuesday 16th July, is still ongoing, with students bearing placards with different inscriptions at the entrance of the university.
At the center of the protest is the management’s decision to ration electricity supply on campus to 10 hours daily.
According to an internal memo, the electricity supply will be available from 8 am to 2 pm and 10 pm to 2 am. The students however did not take the decision lightly stating it it is unacceptable in this 21st century.
The students are also protesting against the hike in tuition fees, which they say is unbearable.
The Students’ Union President, Aweda Bolaji, has called for a total reversal of the new electricity schedule and tuition increment.
He also demanded a constant power supply within the school premises and a refund for those who had paid the new fees.
