FG has met all of ASUU’s demands- Hon. Chukwuemeka.
The Honourable Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba said in an interview with reporters on the sidelines of the commemoration of the 2022 Commonwealth Celebration in Abuja that, the Federal Government has met all of the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) demands.
Recall that ASUU, on Monday, announced the extension of its strike action by two months at the end of a meeting with its National Executive Council held at its National Secretariat on Sunday at the University of Abuja. ASUU has also accused the Federal government for working against the use of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), a payment platform designed by ASUU as an alternative to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) of the government, the Union’s President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, said the two months extension was to give the government enough time to address its demands in “concrete terms,” so students could go back to school.
“Having gathered reports on the engagements of the Trustees and Principal Officers with the government, NEC has concluded that government failed to satisfactorily address all the issues raised in the 2019 FGN/ASUU Memorandum of Action (MoA) within the one month warning strike.
Hon. Nwajiuba however countered this statement during the interview, when he insisted that the Federal Government had met all the demands of ASUU. In his words: “when ASUU announced the one month warnig strike, we met with the union and everything they demanded for such as the earned allowances and the revitalisation funds have been done. Maybe they just feel the need to extend the strike.
Regardless of the series of meetings held with the Federal Government’s team chaired by the Minister of Labour, Employment and productivity, Sen Chris Ngige, both the union and the government have failed to come to an agreement.
