The MTN Champ Competition For Young Nigerians aims to discover and develop athletic potential to transform the sporting landscape in Nigeria.
MTN CHAMPS is a program in Nigeria that aims to unearth and foster athletic talent across the country. It is modeled after the Jamaican High school CHAMPS and is poised to become the primary platform for identifying and nurturing promising athletes who could go on to represent Nigeria in prestigious international competitions such as the Olympics and World Championships.
MTN CHAMPS is a track and field competition set to discover outstanding athletes from schools across Nigeria. This will serve as a launchpad for the next legends of Athletics superstars who will go ahead to dominate the global scene.
Through this program, talented individuals from all corners of the country will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and receive the training and support they need to reach their full potential as world-class athletes.
MTN CHAMPS will consist of four 3-day Championships nationwide, held every 2-3 weeks from October to December 2023, with 1 day added to the final event for the Grand Final:
- MTN CHAMPS Benin: Thu 12th – Sat 14th October ’23 (Registration deadline: Wed 4th Oct)
- MTN CHAMPS Uyo: Thu 26th – Sat 28th October ’23 (Registration deadline: Wed 18th Oct)
- MTN CHAMPS Ibadan: Thu 9th – Sat 11th November ’23 (Registration deadline: Wed 1st Nov)
- MTN CHAMPS Abuja: Wed 29th Nov – Fri 1st Dec ’23 (Registration deadline: Tue 21st Nov).
- MTN CHAMPS GRAND FINAL, Abuja: Saturday 2nd December ’23
Requirements:
- Registration will be strictly online, with registration deadlines 8 days prior to each MTN CHAMPS Event.

Method of Application
Is your School/Team the best in Athletics in your city? There’s only one way to find out! To enter, a recognized official of your School or Team, e.g. Principal, Games Master, PE Teacher, Athletics Coach or Captain must register your ‘10+10’ Entries at MTNCHAMPS.COM, after which you or your Athletes may promote your participation by posting the most fun and creative videos on social media of your School/Team training or trying out for MTN CHAMPS, at interhouse or inter-school sports, in practice or at any other competitions, along with the hashtag for your city (e.g. #MTNCHAMPSIbadan, etc)!
