Eligibility Criteria:

- Must pursue a full-time PhD at a Canadian institution.
- Requires nomination from a university with a Vanier CGS quota (updated list available on July 1).
- Must be in the first PhD program.
- Not receiving CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC doctoral funding.
- Must have a first-class average in the last two years of studies.
- Joint degree candidates (MD/PhD, DVM/PhD, JD/PhD) are eligible for PhD funding only.
- The research proposal must include a significant research component.
- Cannot be faculty at a university with a Vanier quota or other institutions unless on granted leave for the PhD.
- Must be enrolled full-time; or part-time, possibly for disability or family support, with adjusted study duration.
- Canadian federal government employees can apply for unpaid leave.
