Rice Master Training Program (RMTP) 2025

This initiative will take place from 27th January to 1st February 2025 in Ghana and is set to revolutionize the rice value chain across the ECOWAS region and beyond by building the capacity of experts in the sector.

The RMTP is a comprehensive three (3) week training program aimed at enhancing both technical and managerial skills in the rice value chain. The training will cover a period of 7 months where participants would be in 3 separate sessions. In between the sessions, there would be “intersession assignments” where participants would apply lessons learnt. The program covers a broad range of topics vital to the sector, combining both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience. Key areas of focus in this maiden edition include:

  • Sustainable Rice Cultivation: Learn advanced practices for increasing productivity while ensuring sustainability.
  • Post-Harvest Management: Gain insights into techniques that improve the quality of rice products post-harvest.
  • Milling and Value Addition: Explore ways to optimize milling operations and add value to rice products.
  • Gender-Inclusive Approaches: Understand the importance of inclusivity and promote gender-transformative approaches in the rice value chain.
  • Soft Skills Development: Sharpen your facilitation, communication, leadership, and knowledge-sharing skills to become an effective expert in the rice industry.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Open to individuals working in the public and private sectors, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), development partners and institutions that promote the rice value chain in Africa and beyond. Applicants must be officially mandated by their host institution and will undergo a transparent selection process based on specific criteria.
  • Professionals across the ECOWAS region and beyond are eligible to apply.

Benefits:

This training offers a unique opportunity for professionals in the rice sector to gain cutting-edge knowledge and practical skills that can be applied directly to their work. The RMTP is ideal for individuals working in both the public and private sectors, including farmers, agricultural consultants, processors and value chain managers. Participants will not only deepen their understanding of the rice value chain but will also have the opportunity to network with other experts, fostering regional collaboration and innovation.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Open to a wide variety of food garden projects including but not limited to school gardens, community gardens, food pantry gardens, homeless shelter gardens, job training gardens, tribal gardens, senior gardens, library gardens, college gardens, orphanage gardens, demonstration gardens, healing and therapeutic gardens, as well as hybrid versions of the projects above that defy easy categorization (i.e. a community garden project involving seniors who are growing extra food for their local food pantry).
  • Although the garden projects are very diverse, they all share a few common denominators: they must be food gardens; they must be public gardens (i.e. SeedMoney can’t fund an individual’s private garden even if that person is donating the produce to others); and they must be proposed by nonprofit causes that are able to prove their nonprofit status.
  • Applications may be from anywhere in the world.

Grant

  • The grant varies from project to project, depending on the number of people in their community to whom they can ask for support. The average amount raised per project is about $800, but they have had projects raise as much as $15,000.
