History of NKST College of Nursing Sciences, Mkar
The NKST College of Nursing Sciences, Mkar was originally established in 1951 as the School of Nursing Mkar. However, due to the raised standards of training set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, the school faced closure in 1968. This decision was primarily due to the deficiency in qualified teaching staff that impeded meeting the new standards.
After a period of closure, the institution was provisionally reopened on April 1, 1980, resuming its training program for general nurses. This marked the beginning of a new chapter, leading to the graduation of its pioneer set in May 1983, who achieved a 100% pass rate in the final qualifying examination.
In May 2023, the school achieved a significant milestone when the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria officially approved its transition to a college, recognizing its growth and commitment to nursing education.
