The Legislative Mentorship Initiative (LMI) has just opened applications for its Cohort 4 Fellowship, and it might be the most important leadership opportunity for young Nigerians this year. Whether you want to shape laws, design policy, or serve your community, this program is built to equip you with everything you need.
What is LMI?
Founded in 2022 by Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila (former Speaker of the House of Representatives & now Chief of Staff to the President), the LMI is a mentorship and leadership development programme targeted at emerging public sector and legislative leaders. Its mission is to build a generation of competent, and responsive public servants who can deliver on governance and national cohesion.
LMI is now under the umbrella of CoSPAL (Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures) meaning the programme is positioning itself to be continental from November–December 2025. This opens more opportunities and visibility.

Who Can Apply?
- Nigerian citizens aged 21 to 35.
- Individuals with demonstrable leadership qualities or public service experience.
- Good communication skills (oral & written), creativity, patriotism, and a vision for public service and governance.
- Willingness to commit fully to the programme (attendance, assignments, values).

- Visit the official LMI portal via www.lmi.ng or the application page.
- Sign up / login. Fill out the online application.
- Submit required documents: CV, an essay (you’ll write about your interest in public service/legislation), and a one-minute video introducing yourself & your leadership vision.
- Commit to the full programme: from residential training to virtual sessions, mentorship, and project work.
