We will NOT join the Protest-NANS (ABU) CHAPTER

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) ABU chapter in coalition with the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the university has dissociated itself from joining the planned protest by the national body of the association over recent hike in students Tuition by the university Senate.


While addressing a press conference at the NANS secretariat in ABU Zaria about the intention of the national body decision to storm the campus over the hike in tuition fees by the university senate, chairman of the ABU Zaria chapter, Comrade Zacchaeus John Maikudi expressed his appreciation over NANS President concern but further urged him not to worry as the decision was unanimously made by the university senate and all relevant key stakeholders were duly involved.
The chairman further explained that the institution is currently passing through financial difficulty the in its day-to-day operations, for instance more than N70 million electricity bills is paid monthly and a yearly overhead cost a little over N100 million hence the hike.

In his words “We members of NANS ABU Chapter with the Students Representative Council(SRC) jointly, saw reasons in the decision of the university Senate to effect the increment of fees. We also understand that such hike is all in the interest of general operations of the university and students welfare.”

Furthermore, Comrade Maikudi pointed out that the hike varies, according to courses, levels, field trips and laboratory training, stressing that it is in the best interest of the students because the university would not want to compromise the quality of training for which it is known for giving its students.
