AUN re-inaugurates its Feed and Read programme

The American University of Nigeria, has re-inaugurated its Feed and Read programme, which provides literacy skills to over 24,000 out of school children in the North East due to Boko Haram insurgency in 2014.

The re-launch which took off with the enrolment of a 100 out-of-school children, comprised of 50 Almajiri boys and 50 girls each. The program which main objective is to eradicate out-of-school phenomenon globally was marked with the inauguration of the Global Center, led by Dr. Margee Ensign, and other faculty and staff members of the institution. Dr. Margee said it was for that reason, the American University of Nigeria, established the center to address school drop-out issues.
She also complained bitterly that no institution in the world has made effort to stem the out of school children’s tide.
Dr. Jacob Jacob, Dean Post Graduate Studies of the institution said educational funding accounted for only two per cent of global humanitarian funding, and also added that through the Global Centre, it hoped to leverage on research that would influence policy both at the local and global levels so as to address the challenges faced by children who have dropped out of school.
