STOP fraudulent mobilizations- Maj- Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sternly warned all tertiary institutions about the fraudulent mobilization of graduates for national service, and threatens severe panalty against any Tertiary institution or an NYSC official caught aiding and supporting such deceit.

Director – General of the NYSC, Maj – Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, made these reveal during the ceremony of the 2022 Batch ‘A’ stream I Pre-Mobilization Workshop, in Abuja, with the theme: “Enhancing the Credibility of the Mobilisation Process through Effective Data Control.”

In his speech, he revealed that NYSC had blacklisted some Corp producing Institutes guilty of mobilizing fake and uncertified graduates for the past three years.

In his words:

“As you all know, data generated from the Corps Producing Institutes serve as the the raw materials used in processing graduates for the mobilization exercise.

“This record is meant to be genuine and unadulterated, but for selfish reasons of some people along the involved in processing mobilizations, we have continued to encounter set backs.

“However, let me make this very clear that by assuring the public that we are not letting down our guard as we have continued to progress and enhance control measures to stem this fraud, including those that are technology-driven. some of these efforts require the buy-in of other relevant stakeholders, including Students Affairs Officers (SAOS).

“Since my onboard in 2019, we the officials of NYSC have been working tirelessly and having series of meetings with Corps Producing Institutions (CPIs), especially with the Student Affairs Officers so that our mobilization process will not be compromised in anyway possible but seamless and hitch free.

“We have also introduced security measures that requires the head of institutions to endorse whatever data that is to be forwarded to NYSC, so that; if there are any irregularities, then the Scheme can apply sanctions. And so far we have blacklisted institutions guilty of such irregularities.”

Mrs. Victoria Ango, the NYSC Director, Corps Mobilization, pointed out that despite many success stories, stakeholders must be mindful of the increasing number of dishonest people misusing the (mobilization) technology for personal gain.

According to Mrs. Ango: “This is a challenge that should be taken to heart because the NYSC is determined not to take further excuses from the CPIs about data being compromised by whatever method.
