YSU Plans to Establish a ASUU–YSU Multipurpose Cooperative Society.

The Yobe State University (YSU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) revealed its plans to establish a cooperative society to curb the hardship caused by the strike.

The union made this reveal after extensive deliberations at its congress held on June 29, 2022 to discuss its resolve to remain on strike despite opposition by the state Government and the FG’s “no work no pay” policy.

While revealing this yesterday 29 June 2022, Mohammed Saje Jajere, the Branch’s Chairperson said “To cushion the hardship of the salary stoppage, a coping strategy is introduced via ASUU–YSU MULTIPURPOSE COOPERATIVE SOCIETY. Thus, interested members should contact the EXCO of the Cooperative for more details.”

Nigerian students expressed mixed reactions about this plan and it read as thus:

Ibrahim Aliyu who said “Better suspend strike and continue delibrating with government on your demand.”

Mr. Ben Due, a lecturer at Benue state University said “Kudos. The struggle continues. Never give up. Survival na God, no be Man…. Ten years away, you will be fine. GOD will keep you safe, healthy and strong. Solidarity forever!”

Muhammed Suleiman opined “Hmmmm no cooperative can stand after 2 month of non salary.”

It is left to be seen if the cooperative idea is going to hold out or not.
