UNIMAID Joins NLC Solidarity Rally

According to a specal invitation signed by University of Maiduguri Chairperson, Dr. Abubakar Mshelia Saidu, in copy with Dr. Hassan Dogo The school management is set to join NLC solidarity rally.

The invitation reads:

SPECIAL INVITATION TO THE NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS NATIONAL SOLIDARITY RALLY IN SUPPORT OF ASUU STRUGGLES

As you may be aware, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has designated Tuesday, 26th July, and Wednesday, 27th July, 2022 as State and National Solidarity Rallies, respectively, in support of ASUU and other University Unions, following the protracted ongoing strikes crippling the Universities, and the Federal Government’s failure to address the issues raised by the Unions with the seriousness they deserve in accordance with the principles of Collective Bargaining.

The NLC is deeply concerned about the far-reaching negative consequences of the lingering crisis in Universities and other tertiary institutions. The Union also frowned at the cheap blackmail of salary stoppage of the striking workers in the Universities employed by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige.

We wish to commend the courage and resilience of our members who have shown a strong sense of commitment predicated on principles. It is important to remind members that our collective dignity and the survival of the University system lie in our sustaining this strike to its logical conclusion. We must resist the use of blackmail and other tactics by FGN to break this very important struggle.

Consequently, we write to cordially invite all members of Congress to assemble at the ASUU Secretariat by 7:30 AM on Tuesday, July 26th, 2022 to march to the labour house at New GRA, Maiduguri, for the 8:00 AM NLC State rally. You are kindly urged to come out en masse to be part of this important event. We ask Congress members to wear black trousers and canvas. Meanwhile, polo-shirts and caps with engraved ASUU logos will be distributed at the ASUU Secretariat on a first-come, first-served basis for uniformity. Looking forward to seeing you, please.

Remember, United We Bargain: Divided We fall

Thank you.

Yours in Struggle,

DR. ABUBAKAR MSHELIA SAIDU CHAIRPERSON

DR. HASSAN M. DOGO

ASSISTANT SECRETARY
