FG Persuade Striking Lecturers by Increasing their Salaries- Prof. Osodeke

The ongoing squabble between members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal government keeps getting deeper as union has claimed that the Federal Government is not sincere about resolving the issues that have led to the industrial action for almost six-month.

ASUU president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, during an interview on Monday, August 15, stated that instead of addressing the issue affecting Nigerian public universities, the government rather decided topersuade the striking lecturers into calling off the strike by increasing their salaries, the union president described this move as ‘‘unfortunate and a blackmail.”

Prof. Osodeke reiterated that the union is committed to seeing the strike to the end until the right thing is done.

Prof. Osodeke maintained that they haven’t heard any serious communication from the Federal government but they have, however, been invited for the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement today, August 16.
