FG vs ASUU: Court Orders ASUU To Call Off Prolonged Strike

The National Industrial Court(NIC) has ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to call off the prolonged industrial action that has been on for 7months now.

Recall that the federal government filed a lawsuit against ASUU due to the unions refusal to call of the strike after much deliberations.

Ruling on the mandatory injunction filed by the Federal government, the presiding Judge, Justice Polycarp Hamman moderate the union from continuing with the strike pending the final ruling of the suit. The judge also gave an order for the case filed should be returned to the president of the Industrial Court for reassignment to another judge.

The Judge further stated that the industrial action is detrimental to public university students who cannot afford to attend private tertiary institutions. And according to the Trade Dispute Act workers are mandated to discontinue any form of strike once an issue is been presented before the industrial court.

The judge refused to fine the federal government as demanded by ASUU.
