History of Federal College of Education Eha-Amufu

In 1981, the then Anambra State of Nigeria established the College of Education, Eha-Amufu by the law cited as the “College of Education, Eha-Amufu Law 1982 deemed to have come into operation on the 21st February, 1981. After the announcement of the establishment f the College of Education, Eha-Amufu by the Governor with effect from 21st February, 1981, a temporary office with skeletal staff was opened at an office around the then Anambra Television (ATV) Independence Layout, Enugu. On 7th August, 1981, the then Anambra State Commissioner for Education and the then Permanent Secretary to the Ministry took the newly appointed Provost and the then Registrar to the present site of the College at Eha-Amufu, about 64 kilometres northeast of Enugu, the Enugu State Capital.

The site was formerly occupied by the Federal Government-owned Teacher Training College, (TTC), Eha-Amufu. The Federal Government took over the College in April, 1993 with financial effect from January, 1994. Decree No. 4 of 1986 as amended by Decree No. 34 of 1993 and Decree No. 6 of 1993 established the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu. These laws provided for all the structures established under the 1982 Anambra State Legislation. The basic Law (Decree No. 4 of 1986) among others made similar provisions as the State Law under which the College was founded.
