History of Gregory University Uturu

Gregory University Uturu is a highly acclaimed institution of higher learning that prides itself on its commitment to innovation and excellence. Under the leadership of globally renowned intellectual entrepreneur, Professor Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe, the university was licensed by the Nigerian Government in 2012. It is located on a spacious 100-hectare property in the peaceful and serene town of Amaokwe-Achara Uturu in Isuikwuato Local Government Council of Abia State, with an additional campus in Umuahia that caters to the training of its pioneer clinical medical students.

The university has a vision to transform its graduates into champions by instilling in them the necessary skills, competencies, and aspirations. Its motto, “Knowledge for Tomorrow,” reflects its commitment to producing God-fearing, ethically sound, and highly skilled global leaders who will drive technological and socio-economic advancement.

Offering over 55 highly competitive programs in 12 colleges, including Medicine and Health Sciences, Law, Engineering, Allied Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Basic Clinical Sciences, Agriculture, Education, Environmental Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, Humanities, and Social and Management Sciences, as well as a fully functional School of PostGraduate Studies, the university is committed to providing a diverse and enriching academic experience.

To promote skills acquisition, all scholars of Gregory University Uturu are required to partake in a compulsory elective in entrepreneurial studies and practical training at any of the available university centers of enterprise. The university also encourages the acquisition of French as a second language and excellent leadership qualities by selecting scholar leaders from among students with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average.

The campus boasts numerous architecturally smart edifices, including a fully equipped specialist hospital, a hi-tech engineering complex, a state-of-the-art 2000-capacity auditorium, a well-stocked online and offline library, a sports complex, research and innovative laboratories, a media center, and campus radio and online TV studios. The on-campus specialist hospital provides top-notch health solutions to the university and its host community.

With a faculty of over 650 academic and non-academic staff, most of whom reside in the staff quarters within the main campus, the staff-to-student ratio is optimized, encouraging effective coaching and mentoring. The Gregory University Uturu Exchange Program provides the university with a unique opportunity to embark on annual education tourism to foreign partner institutions in the US and Canada through student and faculty exchanges.
