Kogi State poly boost its international alliance with US varsity
In a quest to expose its students and personnel to the latest trends in Agriculture, Vocation, Science and Technology, Kogi State Polytechnic, has decided to boost its international alliance with the Delaware Africa Caribbean Coalition from the United States.
On Wednesday 9th February, 2022 the Chief Information Officer of the institution, Oredo Omale, stated that the collaboration was part of the outcome of the meeting held on Monday, 7th February 2022 between the Management of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, the officials from Delaware Africa Caribbean Coalition from the United States the and Kogi State Government at the Polytechnic main campus in Lokoja. Mr. Oredo further stated that This renewed collaboration will also see that not just the Kogi State Polytechnic but other state-owned tertiary institutions will benefit from the exchange.
The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Dr Salisu Ogbo Usman, while appreciating the team for their visit also spoke about the opportunity that awaited the Polytechnic, Dr Usman said the institution would hurry the process of signing the Memorandum of Understanding for the quick take-off of the exchange programs. He also stated that the present global focus on Polytechnic education is a vocational, practical, research and skills development. In his words: ” This partnership would see graduates of the Polytechnic equipped with broader knowledge that would help them become employers of labor and more successful after school than most of their peers.
Hon. Wemi Jones, who led the team to Kogi State Polytechnic said “the meeting was a further step towards achieving positive collaboration and he believed the alliance would aid students and youth in the state to be empowered in various aspects of human endeavour and also expressed confidence that the collaboration would yield positive outcomes between the two bodies.”
Representative of Delaware State University, Prof Samuel Besong, and expressed deep gratitude to the Kogi State Government for their hospitality and further stated that the DACC collaboration to exchange new modules and curriculum with the institutions is solely for the benefit of students and lecturers which would serve as a platform and foundation suitable for training and adding additional skills to student would love to venture into Art Studio, Textile Room, Sculpture House and Entrepreneurship Development Centre domiciled at the main campus of the Polytechnic and their respective chosen fields.
He however urged the Management of the Polytechnic to tap from the opportunity of international areas of collaboration as the University would always be open to more alliances as time goes on.
Other members of the visiting team were Anthony Inyama and Dr Moses Timothy(DACC Representatives), Dr. Saka Haruna Audu (Kogi State Commissioner for Health), David Apeh(Commissioner for Agriculture), Pedro Akande (Dean, School of Art, Design and Printing) and Ben Atanu (Head of Entrepreneurship Development Centre).
