NUC Withdraws Accreditation for ABSU School of Medicine.

The Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) has withdrawn the accreditation given to Abia State University school of medical sciences for the study of medicine and surgery.

NUC withdrew the approval due to a track record of inadequacies at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba (ABSUTH).

According to a statement by the Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Abia State chapter, Dr. Chimezie Okwuonu, the School can no longer admit new students into its school of Medicine and Surgery as a result of this.

Furthermore, Mr. Okwuonu described the withdrawal of the accerditation by NUC as disturbing, and blamed it on the state government saying that ABSUTH has been plagued by interrupted operations due to industrial actions by the workers over inconsistent payment of salaries. He reiterated that as of the end of April 2022, the staff of ABSUTH are been owed 25 months of salary arrears.
