The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, has instructed relevant committees of the chamber to intervene in the deadlock between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Hon. Wase, who presided over the plenary on Wednesday, authorized chairmen of the House Committees on Education and Labour to resolve the deadlock, and if no progress is made then the leadership of the parliament would step into the matter.

At the close of the plenary, Hon. Wase said, “ I want to use (this opportunity) and plead with our Chairmen of Committees on Labour and Education to expedite action on the resolution of the crisis in the education industry as this will go a long way in helping our citizens.

I want to also urge everyone, to do what is right so the matter can be resolved amicably and as soon as psssible. The House has intervened in a number of issues in the past and I think it would not be too much if we can resolve this crisis within a short period of time. I sincerely hope that there is very excellent progress, moving ahead.”
