LAUTECH Bans Students from Bringing Cars to School

In a bid to reduce the occurrence of traffic on the campus, Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso in Oyo State, has joined the list of Nigerian tertiary institutions that have barred its students from driving or bringing cars to the school campus.

The university also banned the use of tinted vehicles by staff members and students and directed that learner permits must be placed on the vehicles of beginner drivers. Unauthorized vehicles parked at various locations in the university are to be taken out with immediate effect while vehicles with no registration numbers were also prohibited.

A statement issued by the university’s Registrar, Kayode Ogunleye, said the decision was reached at a management meeting held on Wednesday, April 19.

In November 2021, the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State (FUOYE) barred its students from driving personal cars to the university campus after it accused the students of reckless driving and illegal parking. The Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, had also banned students from driving cars within the school premises.

The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, also banned students from driving private cars on campus in March 2021, and shortly after, In April of the same year, the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo State banned the use of cars and power bikes by students of the institution on campus.
