Education Profile of Regina Askia

Imaobong Regina Askia Usoro famously known as Regina Askia Williams born May 17th,1967 in Lagos State, Nigeria. She is an actress(Nigeria’s early Nollywood), American trained Family Nurse Practitioner, Activist, model and producer.

Regina attended Federal Government Girls’ College, Calabar and graduated in 1985. She proceeded to University of Lagos (UNILAG) where she graduated in 1990 with a bachelors in biological sciences (B.Sc. Biology). Askia trained in New York, USA,  and obtained another Bachelors in Nursing Science from CUNY College of Staten Island, New York and a Masters as a Family Nurse practitioner from Wagner College, Staten Island, New York.

In 1988, Regina who had transferred from the University of Calabar to the University of Lagos, was crowned Miss Unilag. She also worked on several runway shows, and in 2007, she modelled for the 2000-N-Six face cleansing range alongside her daughter, model Stephanie Hornecker. In 2006, Askia-Williams hosted a charity fashion show at Lehman College in the Bronx, New York, which displayed the creations of top African designers and her own label Regine Fashions.

Regina’s acting break came in 1993, when she played gold-digger “Tokunbo Johnson” in the Nigerian soap Fortunes (later Mega Fortunes) on NTA Network, a role which earned her critical acclaim and recognition as a Nigerian actress. As a result, Askia starred in several “Nollywood” films during the 1990s and early 2000s, most of which were filmed to be released directly to a wide audience in Nigeria, Tanzania, and Ghana.
